Math Time

Reflection On Maths With Miss Pine

Today on maths we had to get in groups of four and work together to try and work out a problem using fractions. The problem had to do with uneven chocolate bars.Let's say there were 5 children going for a bush walk and their teacher gave 8 chocolate bars which wasn’t even.So then my team and I had to work out how we could divide 8 chocolate bars with 5 children.
The way we solved the problem was hard at first but then it got easier throughout the session.
So we had 8 chocolate bars and we took 5 away from the 8.Which meant the 5 kids had 1 chocolate bar each, but still left with 3 full chocolate bars. And since there was 5 kids we decided to divide the 3 chocolate bars into 5ths.Then left with 15 chocolate pieces and divided those 15 pieces with 5.The answer we got was ⅗,each person got 1 whole bar and ⅗ of a bar.
And that is how we solved our problem.

  • 8 chocolate bars
  • 5 children
  • 8 bars divided by 5 children = 1 ⅗
